I would love to understand your strategy for elk draws / permits.

I am building preference points in Utah, Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado for elk, mule deer and pronghorn. I'm sure I could easily draw Wyoming and Colorado now, but I'm not prepared to go yet so I added to my preference points to hopefully help me draw a better area when I'm ready to go.

The one state I could not really figure out was Montana. I read the draw rules and it seems like a horrible program to try and build preference points if you are a nonresident.

So, how did you go about it with Montana? Are you just doing one of the general area hunts?
