Cortland 5-6 Reel &,rod combo

I have an old Cortland Silver Stream combo. It is still in the package never been used. I am Left Handed and was wondering if I turn and mount the reel backward with the crank handle on the right and let the line come off the bottom instead of the top will it work for a left handed person. It looks like it will. I believe it will but just wanted verification.
