The rut and rain

Post by MUP »

A question came to mind with all this rain moving in and the timing coinciding with the rut in my area. I last hunted yesterday morning and saw a doe being chased by a small buck. I got to wondering how 3 days of fairly heavy rain might affect the ability of bucks to scent trail the hot does. I should be out there right now rut-wise, as there is obviously another hot doe running around, but, will the rain possibly keep some does from being located to be bred, and extend their estrous cycle to the next monthly cycle?

I seriously doubt it would effect the success of the rut MUP. A fascinating study I read years ago found that bucks can identify a doe in estrus simply by sight, hence don't need to use their nose to find them.
