Had to say goodbye to my best friend yesterday

Man, this is so hard. Thank you everyone. I can't say enough about Gus. He was as close to human as possible. He actually understood things that I said, things I asked him to do. He minded better than any child. He loved the water, riding in the truck, he would mow with me, following every step. He watched after and protected the cats. Everyone that ever met and spent time with him loved him. We ate from the same plate, drank from the same glass, can or bottle. Back in the day, he could drink more beer than me. I often said he had a drinking problem. If I was outside, he was by my side. If I was gone, he wouldn't eat, even when on vacation, he would not eat until I got home. He used to sleep in the recliner with me as a pup. As he started to grow, he would jump in the recliner and knock it over. When his tail started to knock over Donna's flowers and things, she said he had to go outside. No matter what was going on, what mood I was in, or how bad my days would be, he met me at the door, excited to see me and want to get in my lap. There will never be another Gus. I knew if something ever happened to me, Gus would morn his self to death. We were that close. Now, I have such an emptiness inside. Gus was truly my best friend!

Oh Jimmy! I am so so sorry! I know the pain is real on you today! Bless your heart. Sounds like Gus has blessed your life for many good years! Sometimes I think God gives us dogs for a reason! Hang in there!!

So sorry, Man I feel your pain. Reading your post reminded me of my Basset/Beagle mix named Missy. She loved to sit on our deck in the summer with me and I would share my beer or beers with her. After a few drinks, when some one would walk up the road, she would stand up wag her tail and give this long yodeling howl, as If to say howdy! to whoever was walking at the time. And of course she became quite a celebrity in the neighborhood as she greeted folks on those hot summer evenings for 15 years. You won't forget your buddy but time will heal the pain, all the best!

Sad day for sure and I hate to hear the news . They can be as family and if anything happened to Jake I know I would feel as you do .
