All it takes to run a diesel engine is compression, air, and fuel. Some engines dont even require fire like a gasoline engine does.

I havent clicked the link but it takes a few minutes for all the fuel to purge from a diesel engine. Cutting the ignition off wont help either with a mechanical engine. On top of that, some engines are actually capable of running BACKWARDS! Older detroits were infamous for this.
