More woes

Got the cva out again. After talking with scat I decided to try a 55gr load. Had 5 loaded up and headed out. First shot was way high. Decided to go ahead with the group instead of messing with the scope. Next 4 were all right there together. All 5 made for about a 1.25” group. Just the last 4 we’re about 3/4. Either way. I’m pleased. Chrony numbers looked great. Being out of powder charges I ran inside. Loaded 3 more and made my scope adjustment. Lost nearly 50fps with these but the group pretty much stayed the same. Come on muzzy season.

The woe is the loss of speed. First 5 were consistent. The next 3 we’re something like 2391,2380 and 2371. Don’t remember exactly but a loss of 50fps lol. Made no sense.

If that Scout is grouping that good I wouldn',t be worried.

Yep, as I've learned shooting at longer distances, numbers are fine for seeing what your es and sd are, but ultimately what counts is what's on paper. I've got loads that are in single digits for both es and sd that shoot sub MOA groups, and I also have loads that are in the 30s and shoot sub MOA groups. I listen to the guys at the range that have won multiple competitions that say the same thing.

I’m fine with the numbers and results. Just found it odd that the same powder charge, loaded on different days, shot on the same day, produced a 50fps spread. The only explanation would be different lots of powder. Biggest reason I even got the chrony out is to get my scope set for a 200 yard shot.

Years ago I had a 243 that shot great groups, but by the numbers on paper it shouldn’t have grouped at all lol. Always frustrated me
