A man can never have too many

Post by scat »

I was at Academy Sports yesterday and saw that they still had an H&R 45-70 on clearance. H&R discontinued the handi rifle line early this year. Needless to say I bought it and it is going to Slufoot this week for breechplug installation. I like my Ultrahunter so well that I will use this one as a backup with iron sights. That way it will be easy to carry the 2nd ML on every hunt.

Heck yeah !
I didn't know that the had discontinued the handi rifle. That's a bummer big time. I wish I could have several different calibers in those little guns.
I would love to convert one to smokeless myself.
Be sure and post pictures when you get it back.

I will post pics when I get it back. That was the last one at that particular store and I gave $229 for it on clearance. They can still be had on Gunbroker and such for approx $250. The new single shots that they are going to make will be made in china under a new design. Converted, they make a super handy light weight muzzleloader that will shoot a 250SST sabotless at close to 2700 fps without sizing.

No doubt! While I don't have a handi smokeless, I do have a handi in 25-06 and 7mm-08. The kids have killed several with the 7mm-08 with reduced loads. So that little single shot is close to home. The 25-06 ultra was a gift from my wife. I've only taken a couple deer with it but it is a handloaders dream. It seems to shoot whatever I put in it remarkably well. 100 gr bt and 120 gr game king and it's lights out! I just hope China can produce an adequate product.

ImageI got the barrel back from Slufoot yesterday. That was five days after I shipped it to him. I put it back together today. Replaced the iron sight with a set of Willams fire sights for a Savage 10ml II. Shouldered it a few times and the sight are easy to see and align right up when shouldered. Should make an excellent back up shot. Wild Bill it's time for a range session.

I have shot it a few times with 250 TEZ and 10/60 load. At 2650+ fps that little gun rocks your world. No scope and iron sights make for a light ML but shots over 100 yards with those sights are not advisable. I plan to use it for a backup shot and also for hunting thick areas.

I also plan to load it with a saboted 200 SST and a light load of RL7 for my wife to hunt with.

I was looking at one at the local gun store. He had the synthetic blue with the surstock on it for $325. Those guns sure seem hard to find. I wasn't sure about the price or if I liked the stock.
I want to know if anyone has done the rossi wizard yet I love the stock on that little gun

Scat. My little buddy Wild Bill let me borrow one of his. I LOVE it. Honestly, with the distances i shoot, I see no reason to buy big gun stamp.

There was a fellow on Gunbroker that had the blued camo synthetic stocked model with scope base for 275 free shipping to your FFL.
You have to be careful because other manufacturers may size their barrels differently. I have seen some tighter at the muzzle than the breech, making them unfit for sabotless. The h&r's all seem to like the 250 sst or shockwave UNSIZED for a perfect sabotless fit. My latest one is a little tighter so I shoot the 250 TEZ in it.

Bucky, once you go smokeless it is almost impossible to go back.
