Does Retail Deer Urine Have a Shelf Life?

I routinely see urine from many brands reduced in Dicks, Academy, and even Walmart... I always wonder if the urine is last year's overstock that the store is trying to push out, and that's why the price is reduced.

But is it worth the money if it has lost its effectiveness. Does it go bad?

That`s a good question. I dunno. I know I have to buy new every season because I use up whatever I have. Drips, sent bottles, waffers, spray cans. I do know that the Manufacturers put preservatives in the product if they didn`t it would not last 24-48 hours without turning to ammonia even sealed up. A left over opened bottle I would not trust. Shelf life on an unopened bottle,waffer, spray can that has preservatives I don`t know. It could have set in a a manufacturers warehouse or a stores warehouse for a year before hitting the shelf. So basically I think it depends on the preservative the manufacturer puts in it and the sealing process.

I think I`m gonna try some vanilla this season.

I never knew it had a preservative in it. So, if that's the case, that begs another question... How can we know for sure the preservative (whatever that chemical is) isn't eroding the effectiveness of the urine? I think I've seen on the shelf some brand that hand writes the date the urine was extracted. I wonder if that would be a more reliable purchase.

From a friend who uses those urine attractants, he told me that the synthetic version apparently has an indefinite shelf life.

Ok, good point Owl Creek. The ban will not go into effect untill July 12019 from what this article says.

Surely the synthetic stuff isnt as good as the real thing. You'd think the deer would know the difference.
