Coming off my worst season in many years as well TWF. Never took a deer last season, but not for not having a chance at them tho...it was all me.

Let's see, switched over to BH209 too late, weighing my loads, loaded ML with the grain wt of what I load my AR with, about 1/3 what was needed, pop at a little 8 pt, hopped off unharmed. Rifle season, had a dandy following a doe upon the ridge behind me. Waiting for him to pass thru the same opening the doe walked thru..waiting...waiting... just as I come off the scope to look for him, he passes thru the opening and I react with a jerk and fire, possibly gut shooting it. Not over yet, as he wheels and comes down the ridge closer to me. Scope still dialed up for the longer distance, I try to get on him as he's coming by at about 40 yds, fire, he slides and cuts back right in front of me...best shot window yet. I have him in the scope as he's passing...click. Hard primer doesn't fire, buck gone. Never found so much as a hair.

I am lucky on my Farm/Lease I have seen up to 36 Deer walk by in a row at a time. That was a one time thing about 6 years ago. I have never been on that farm that I recall I havent seen a deer. Alot of them were not in range and some were up to 500 yards away but I still seen em. I also am lucky that my lease ajoins a State Park where the deer are protected and also stupid

well it was really good until 2 years ago someone bought out the 60 acres next to it and clear cut it all, poaching was bad before but now with it all clear cut and right next to the highway inbetween the park and hunting land they average about 4 shots a day from the road found 2 deer dead on my lease last year from .22 shots in the gut untelling how many more were laying around. TWRA knows and they are working on busting them they watched them all year but never caught them in the act TWRA called me 3 diff times the boys were posting the deer they killed at night time out there on there facebook page. But we have some things set up already to get them this year
