Post by leader »

Does Ethanol gas just gum up the carbs in small engines and thats why it is bad?

That's what I've heard... But I put it in my mowers and always have. Never had any problems. It may cause more problems on certain engines. I really don't know.

I think it messes with seals and gaskets as well.

Got a buddy with a small engine shop and ethanol keeps him in business fixing engines that have run it. He said if you just add sta-bil to your gas you are good to go and won't need to come see him.

A co worker told me to fill a mason jar about half full of ethanol gas, and within a few hours you can see the "corn" syrup settled on the bottom. Apparently, when a vehicle or small engine sets for any length of time, this stuff settles to the bottom of the tank, and then on startup, that syrup gets pulled into the system, causing rough running and hard starts. Just what I've been told. I know that I've been putting non ethanol in everything I own, except my daily drivers.

a lot of mis info here

i love e-85

run it in my race car
fora daily driver it is pointless to us

it take 30% more so 2.99 a gal is 3.90 a gal so regular gas is cheaper also thus why you get worse gas mileage

for racing

2.99 a gal vs 110 @ 7.50 a gal

supports up to and over 13:1 compression
love nitrous and forced induction applications

runs way cooler than gas ( not as cool as methanol)

temps change dont affect it as bad

as fa as the problems with 10% in you small engines

the ethanol will eat you fuel line and thus clog the carb

if you dont let it sit it is will be ok and whe you do let it sit drian all of it out or use a stabil product

So is it different for a fuel injected engine?

on a FI eng

the computer compensates for the 30% more fuel usage and the injector increases the duty cycle

on carbed like my race car

the jets metering blocks and booster and squirters are all increased

they fit the new cars with the correct fuel lines so the flex fuel cars have no issues

except in winter when e85 is really e 70 more gas is added to help start

I have a fuel injected mule so ethanol shouldn't be a problem AND if I run all the gas out every time or put stabil in it, I'm good?

it rots fuel lines, turns orange after sitting a while, I can't remember what else it does but it doesn't touch any of my small motors or outboard. I run it through my truck because it never sits long and I frequently put more gas in. Boat and small motors get ethanol free, which doesn't cost me that much because the smaller motors use less gas anyway.

does 10% ethanol gas really burn 30% more in a car?

No

I got off on e-85

10% will cause some but very little fuel usage

my point about e-85 was when people talk about ethanol 10% and all the myths hell i run 85% and it does not form gel or turn orange

the ethanol will pull moisture out of the air in a non sealed fuel system

which will cause problems

I am curious then what causes the gasoline to turn orange?

Funny, but back in the day before unleaded, and before you were probably born catman, gas used to be orange anyway.
