The old one are moving during the day

It is on in Williamson County. The mature deer have shown up about a week later than normal, but they are moving. Got these 2 over a scrape and saw 2 more 4 plus years olds in a thicket today while I was putting out hay for the horses. I know where I will be in the morning. One I saw today will go i...

This is a bummer!

Wednesday afternoon I was headed to one of my stands and found one of my 3.5 year olds dead. I could tell he had been there for days because part of him was eaten. However, I did see that he had been shot in the bottom of his belly. I called the few people that hunt around me to see if they had shot...

Re: food plot vs corn pile

Well I am going to hold back my true feelings about your statement because I feel that you are probably in a position that doesn't allow you to implement food plots onto property that you have worked hard to purchase. When a person is trying to increase the health of the wildlife on property they ow...

Re: age this 4 pt please

I saw a 5 point last year that was well over 4 years old. Huge framed rack and lots of mass. I would have shot him if he would have been close enough and would have been dang proud of it. I also saw a spike 3 years ago that had 20 inch main beams that was 16 inches wide and he was mature. Some deer ...

Re: food plot vs corn pile

One difference is the amount of time and money that goes into planting a food plot. Another is the food plot is a long term source of nutrition for not only deer, but a lot of other animals in the wild. I have been practicing QDMA for the last 3 years on the main property I hunt and have seen a larg...

Bucks Getting Frisky

So I hunted pretty hard the first 2 weeks to see if there was anything moving I hadn't seen on camera. Ended up seeing all but 1 deer that I had on camera and a few smaller ones that had just moved into the area. A couple of the bucks are 3.5 and would gross around 120, but not what I'm looking to s...

Re: Big 8,,, He is on the list!

I'm not trying to take anything away from the buck, but my brother has one on the wall that looks like a twin to that one and he grossed 128" and some change. He is probably about 18" wide. 10" to 11" g2s and 6" to 7" g3s. Probably 22" main beams. Lack of brow tine...

That is a nice 8. He should push the 130 mark.

Re: Just to show you how tricky velvet can be

The best way to know how to score bucks on camera is to kill several that are on camera and figure out where you went wrong. I have learned to be very conservative because pictures make them seem much larger than they actually are. I would imagine most people posting pics of their deer add a few inc...

It is a shame that certain cultures can't act more civilized in the case of such a tragedy. What's even worse is we are still having to define Americans as different cultures. There is no doubt that a large number of blacks are still using their color as a reason to be violent and offensive to every...

Any1 here have experience with vortex? I have a Vortex Viper 4-12x40 on my 270wsm and a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 on my .223 and I love both of them. I also have Vortex binoculars. I used to be a Nikon man until I ran across Vortex. The viper glass is better than the monarchs and the vx-iii. Actually, it...

Holy Crap at the fawns!

I whined and complained last year about only seeing a couple of fawns. I figured the coyotes got them all. This year it seems that every doe has 2 and they are all healthy. I'm talking 20 to 25 fawns on 500 acres. (that counts my neighbors place) I'm gonna have to kill several does this year to bala...

I'm gonna say he'll go about 110"-115". He would get a pass on my farm but he is a very nice buck no doubt, and I wouldn't blame anyone for shooting him! Pretty sure he is gonna be a little better than 115". I shot one 3 years ago that measured 114" and when looking at the pics ...

Re: About grown out.

Any ideas on what the one closest to the camera in the first picture will score. I am having trouble guessing his tine length. He is only about 15 inches wide. I am hoping his g2's are close to 10 and g3's are 5 or 6. His main beams should be 20"s or better. He is gonna be hard to pass because ...

Here are 3 that will likely get a pass this year. One is a 3 year old and the others are 2. I plan to only shoot mature deer from here on out, but we all know how that goes when they actually stand 20 yards in front of you. http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj514/dawsonwoodard/Cdy00175.jpg http://...

Won't hurt my feelings. I hope he kills him and we find out. Good buck either way. We can bet a sun-drop on it. haha!

Re: Buck from the lease part 2

That will be a solid 110" 2 year old. If you want to shoot him, do it. If you think you will have the lease again next year, he could be pushing the 130" mark as a 3 year old. Hard to pass on deer like him though.
