BH209 / CVA Kod Mag Update

Post by MUP »

Went and shot the CVA again yesterday, this time with the CCI Mag primers. No issues with ignition, and just a little with accuracy. :) First shot from clean barrel is the one on the left, the other four are to the right with 3 touching, and one flier. The far FAR right hole was from a previous outing. :D

100 yds, 260 gr lead conical, 60 gr wt BH209

chit don't work in my 45 Kodiak promag

excessive blowback
misfires
hang fires
weighing the stuff out on digital scale
blah blah blah blah

all the woes of bh209
did all the proper cleaning
drill out the flash hole
I was pretty meticulous almost anal trying this stuff
even contemplated sending away breechplug for modification for savage vent liner

then finally said fugg all dat after trying to "make" the gun shoot bh209
Kodiaks just plain ole don't like bh209 and the breechplug aint designed for it
and I was rather tired of making things more complicated rather simple

best thing anyone can do if they have a Kodiak
is to unscrew the firing pin and clean out the bushing ,spring, the pin itself and the entire recess it all goes back into and oil the bejeesus outta that area

got a can 777 ffg
stuff it with 100grs by volume
win 209 primers
barnes 195,s
kills deer just as dead..........................

Yep, I just went back to Pyro and it's shoots like it always has! I did all that stuff too with BH, cleaning meticulously as well, might get 3-4 shots off, then a hang fire, or no fire. Happened with the 10 pt I killed in 2014, and I was VERY fortunate to get a chance at another shot if you can believe that!
