Wish me luck

Post by BSK »

Early tomorrow morning, I have a 15K race from downtown Nashville out to the Parthenon on West End and back to downtown. The forecast for race time is 17 degrees and breezy. Man, they don't make enough running clothes for those temperatures! I'm going to freeze my ass off! Or at least I will until I get warmed up about mile 4, and then I'll be sweating and trying to strip stuff off while running. That's harder than it sounds...

But it IS the Hot Chocolate 15K, which means there will be all the hot chocolate I can drink and all the chocolate fondue I can eat at the end of the race. That makes it almost worth it.

Best of luck to you!!! Try not to freeze all of your ass off, you'll need some of it to finish the race!!

Yes it does. Recently I've been noticing asthma-like symptoms after long runs in very cold temps. That is unpleasant and disconcerting.

Just pretend Hitliary is chasing you with political papers in one hand and jehova witness papers in the other, all while wearing lingerie...You should finish first with an all time new record. Warm those joints. Good Luck!

Wx channel says 22 here right now. If I just had to be outside right now, I'd rather have a rifle in hand and be in the stand! Good luck!

1:38:33 (10:35/mile). That tops my previous official best for that distance of 1:42:13 (10:58/mile).

Wind chill of 6 degrees during the race. Air temp of 18. My body core got hot enough I was down to no gloves and short sleeves for the last 5 miles, but I literally couldn't feel my arms below the elbow or my face. With my lower arms and face being numb, trying to wipe the freezing snot and drool off my face was like slapping myself in the face with a frozen fish. I was handed a cup of Gatorade as I crossed the finish line, and it was frozen solid. This was the "Hot Chocolate" 15K, so lots of hot chocolate after the race, but a steaming cup of chocolate fondue froze solid before I could finish dipping and eating a banana in it.

Unquestionably the coldest race I've ever participated in.

That sounds like torture fo me! From the brutal cold temps to someone handing you a frozen drink at the finish!

Oh, 9.3 miles IS torture! I don't know why I keep doing these long races, except perhaps because I'm just a glutton for punishment!

Looking forward to the Country Music Half-Marathon in April.

That's good. I don't know if I could do 10:35 for one mile. How's your lungs breathing in that cold air so long?
