velvet bucks? 3 day season.

Among changes made was the addition of a three-day, archery-only antlered deer hunt Aug. 24-26 in 2018. The commission had been requested to consider the season so that hunters can have an opportunity to harvest deer while they still have velvet covered antlers.

I hunt in Alabama so I really don't have a dog in this hunt but I have never wanted to kill a buck in velvet...I prefer smooth polished bone on their head...but that is just my opinion.

I think it's to damn hot to be hunting deer that time of year so I'm out.

Seems like they make the archery season longer and longer. Catering to the arrow slingers. I think if they are going to start the archery season earlier they should do the same for muzzleload season. Muzzleload season is the shortest season and is treated like a unnecessary nuisance. Archery season last a couple of months without any interference. It would be nice if muzzle load season lasted more than 14 days. I know my opinion is not a popular one and has got me run off of other sites but y`all know I`m gonna have my say. Just seems only fair to me.

Of course money and trophy hunting had no influence concerning this decision. Keep tellin yerself that.

I think there's no use expressing any opinion on any deer hunting issue toward this commission. IMO we're just along for the ride anymore. That said, I doubt I'll participate bc it is too dang hot for me that time of year, unless there's a major cool front that weekend that blows in I guess. Also, isn't it only for private land only? It's a strange move IMO, somebody got some preferential treatment from the commission...again, seems to me.
